They are focusing on the virus itself, now called the SARS-CoV-2, while their medical counterpart is busy helping the victims of the resultant disease, COVID-19. For starters, physicists identified the virus’ structure through structural automation and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and uploaded the virus’s main protease to the Protein Data Bank. Then they obtained the structure of an outer “spike” protein of SARS-CoV-2. The structure of the external spike, however, is more useful for creating vaccines than drugs. While the developments demonstrate a promising outcome, let’s not forget that the virus is not static. It is mutating constantly or not, but surely. Though considered as non-living, the virus, like us, strives for existence. But don’t forget that our immune system is actively fighting in the background. In my opinion, our very own immune system, itself, is going to win against the virus, with or without scientific intervention in the form of vaccination or medication. 0 Reply Share Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Leave an answerLeave an answerCancel reply Connect with: Featured image Select file Browse Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
